Calpis

January 25th, 2007 at 05:37 am

There are some things in Japan that will never be popular in the US because of their name. There are a huge number of examples, but here is one from a recent trip to the store:

It's a drink called Calpis (say it out loud and what does it sound like?)

Hmm, just what is it? I mean, is it an energy drink, something like yoohoo, or what? Interesting. And the name.. (snicker) I know what you mean!

BTW, I love reading your blog. Smile

No, it's a strange tasting drink - sweet. Don't think it's supposed to be a sports drink althoug it kind of tastes like them.

If they think Calpis is strange, post a pic of the one that is 2 words and starts with "Pocari ... " (I don't want to give it away!)

fern - You got the first word right, but think again about the second word and the fact that someone asked if it was milk ...
